I just adored it, it made me feel rich and powerful. I liked it so much I even wore it to bed. Mind blowing good, everyone wore it and the ladies liked it too. Besides it still Polo Ralph Lauren t shirt holding my number one spot for classic male frags, this bottle remains undefeated. Simple, dignified, and to the point. This bottle and scent helped shape me as a man.
Every time I purchased a bottle, I would be gifted Polo bags and other gifts . I still have several of those bags in the classic green canvas to this day. I used the canvas briefcase for my first job out of college in 1984. The satchel bag I have still has the paper surrounding the shoulder strap tucked under the flap, and it looks brand new.
It is a powerful antidote to watery, fresh scents; wholly masculine with a unique register of notes. I get the juniper berry, the pine, basil & artemisa, all of which make this very dark, green, and herbal. The other spices and notes are blended together beautifully.
6 out of 5 scent when you remind yourself that this was when things were really good and perfume houses were in their ascendancy. Fragrantica is a complete joke at this point. An Intense flanker of this fragrance has been on sale for at least 2 weeks at this point and was announced more than a month ago, and it STILL does not have a page on Fragrantica. This is a massive fragrance release, but Fragrantica is too busy talking about the “fragrance brands” that are founded from hipsters’ garages in Seattle and Portland every week. I really want to re-experience the vintage version of this that all the boys in school wore the year it came out, but it’s so darn expensive, it’ll have to wait.
I never knew anybody in my background who wore Polo. My only childhood association was a teacher who reminisced that men splashed it on at the gym. I became acquainted with it when I began selling fragrances at a department store and let me tell you, I sold a lot of Polo. We called it Polo green and when we broke a bottle the whole store knew. Yes it is potent, but that is the point. The virility expressed through potency in this cologne is matched by the uber masculine green-oakmoss accord.
It made me want more out of my life. 30 years later and I’m still chasing that feeling I get when I think of the old Polo Ralph Lauren t shirt Ralph Lauren stores, the ads, Ralph’s homes, etc. I would take this bottle with me to my grave and bury me with it.

Like other reviewers said, it really smells like money, not the newer bills made of plastic (I’m Canadian, I don’t know how us bills are nowadays) but the old ones made of paper, like a big stack of it. It’s really powerful, I tested 4 different fragrances on different areas today and I can only smell Polo , I wish I didn’t bought the 240ml bottle, I’ll have enough for at least 3 lifetimes. I think if you are over 30 this is great, in my case it definitely gives me a good throwback in my childhood when I spray it.
