Ralph Lauren

There’s really nothing like it such a distinctive smell. Which is odd considering how often I see many other green fragrances get lazily compared to it. Has an ashy, herbal oakmoss feel held together with the bitter licorice-like absinthe chord. Pine needles, juniper, woods, florals, vetiver and resins add to the dry, country green/piney, masculine character. Further accentuated by the pepper, musk and tobacco. Although it conjures up images of gentlemans country clubs and polo matches it doesn’t really smell grassy as such more herbal, mossy pine forest and even a little dirty, earthy and musty just brilliant.

In the dry-down, there is woodruff, although it’s not listed. This is not at all unpleasant – I’m not sure why so many people ralph lauren t shirt count it among their most hated fragrances. It’s mostly floral on me, with mild notes of pine, vetiver, and wood.

When it dries down to the its basenotes, the pine gives off a damp sweetness. I first smelled this on my friend who wore a Chaps Ralph Lauren brown leather jacket. It is burned in my memory as having a relation to leather, yet the green notes of pine seem to dominate this wonderful scent.

Not exactly “sexy” positive, but “unique” positive, in a good way. All you need is the ’78 Firebird and to unbutton your shirt revealing a hairy chest to complete the ralph lauren t shirt picture. Smells green all day long – if you would like something more cleaner and less daring then floris 1962 is an option. A true Masterpiece of art in fragrance.

This said, I would never ever wear this. I can’t imagine any occasion that would be suitable for it and it smells way too outdated. The dark grey suit and lace-up leather shoes come next with the tortoise-shell rimmed glasses and that handsome mustache neatly trimmed. This fragrance is fresh, grassy and pleasant, but I can’t go out smelling as immaculate as, uhm, the Virgin Mary. If my nose had no association with that, I would have loved this for everyday use. It has a great longevity and good sillage.
