The scent has definitely changed over the years, and I am fortunate to still have a Cosmair 4oz spray and 8oz splash that I will never use up, because I have so many other fragrances in my collection now. However, when I want to go back in time to the greatest green, leathery, mossy performance beast of my ralph lauren t shirt young adulthood, I reach for this classic. I haven’t tried the most recent formulation. I hope, for the sake of this legend, that it is better than what has been offered for the previous few years. This seems to contain all the qualities I have been looking for in fragrances like Aramis and Caron Yatagan.
20 years later she still swears that she remembers me with this perfume. It’s still her favourite, though I now own a lot of perfumes her eyes light up whenever i wear this one. Today’s version of Polo Green only lasts about 2 hours on me and then it’s a skin scent. The OG lasted for 12 or more hours and it still projected and had great silage through the day. Even though I own multiple versions of Polo throughout it’s life cycle, I still choose the modern formula for my day to day wear. My Cosmair bottles are purely for nostalgia and for the collection.
This scent is soo good and takes me back. Every time I spray it, I think of my friend, and playing with our Star Wars figures back in the day, which is nice. Everyone needs a few anchor-points back to their young and carefree days, and funnily enough, Polo Green has become one of mine from a polo dress shirts memory I will always look back on with a smile. My poor ERG forever stunk of Polo Green after that, the smell literally never vanished! Back in the day this stuff was a whole forest crushed and compressed into liquid form and then crammed into a bottle! My uncles signature for over 30 years.
Ralph Lauren Polos are heavily hit by counterfeiters. This is the third counterfeit I have inadvertently purchased. In all of the fakes, the logo is poorly made, always the clear plastic of the logo sticker is visible.
The pine isn’t terribly realistic, but it smells nice. As time goes on, I can pick polo dress shirts up powder, leather, and tobacco. Such an outstanding and iconic green classic.
Any alternate option for polo green ? I really love this fragrance but performance for me is disappointing, I currently have 2018 batch . I wore this infrequently in high school and only recently reacquired it. I loved it for its masculine juniper and pine as a child, and now I appreciate the subtle backbone of leather.
It becomes more evident on clothes as the day goes by. I’m reminded of how my clothes smelled when I was a smoker. It’s also a very nostalgic smell and, yes, I would also dub it a “dad smell”, if there was such a thing.
It is a powerful antidote to watery, fresh scents; wholly masculine with a unique register of notes. I get the juniper berry, the pine, basil & artemisa, all of which make this very dark, green, and herbal. The other spices and notes are blended together beautifully.
