Casio G Shock Watches

The team had assembled and tested nearly 200 prototypes but were still not able to achieve the conception criteria. With that in mind, the team set out to develop a watch using such a concept and in 1983, the first G-Shock, the DW-5000C, was launched. The team was relentless in their quest and eventually resolved the size issue of the watch by figuring a way to isolate and cushion the internal workings of the watch. But once they figured out one aspect, another component would break due the stress of falling from the 10m-high drop test. It was a frustrating process of trial and error that even had Kikuo Ibe considering resigning from his position if he couldn’t devise a solution. He ultimately persevered and found the answer by fate when he walked outside of the testing facility and saw a child playing with rubber ball.

The EL button is a nice touch and makes the backlight more accessible. Now, there is a solar atomic version of the Mudmaster available, but its price is even higher because it’s a Japanese import. It’s hard to justify, considering that the ~$200 Rangeman comes with the same features except for the analog display.

Other protective features include anti-magnetic structures in most analog models and the use of sapphire glass in high-end models. Along with features for increased toughness Casio has also developed many other technical features that make G-Shock watches more useful and maintenance-free than other watch brands. Triple G Resist is now one of G-Shock’s flagship features in its Aviation Series and high-end models like the MTG-S1000. It gives analog watches the most protection possible against shock, g-force, and vibration.

These watches are pushing 80s style into modern proportions like a trunk-pumpin’ remix of DeBarge. Yes, they’re incredibly capable and tough watches, but that’s not quite the point of these bad boys…well, unless you’re going to do a headspin on a piece of cardboard in it. Building on the digital Power Trainer lineup, these are all about tracking your workouts, whether they’re elaborate interval programs or simply a series of steps. The colorways are intended to make them more wearable with everyday clothes, encouraging you to keep it on and keep fit. With a display like like a 5600 but an overall round case, these lack the big G on the bottom and have a more retro-look to them than, say, the 6900 watches.

However, when the first Casio G Shock was invented it was not much favoured by the people. Though the case was very practical and utilitarian but was not appealing.

If outside a region covered by one of the LF time signals (e.g. WWVB), it will continue working just fine, with the ability to set the time manually as needed, which shouldn’t be very often. The moderate size makes it much easier to keep under a sleeve when necessary and much less likely to get snagged and caught on equipment, the consequences of which could be injurious. A thinner profile so that it doesn’t stand as proud on the wrist would be welcome without compromising its near indestructibility. The G9000-1V Mudman is the previous generation Mudman and is known for its extra-protective case featuring mud and dust resistance. It’s a good choice if your military deployment takes you to an extreme environment like the desert or jungle.

With all the goods you’ll need to dive in any conditions, the Frogman is the rare dive-oriented G-SHOCK. It’s not a dive computer, however, and shouldn’t be confused with one. It is, however, rich in dive style, with a range of limited editions and colorways. These watches feature Blutotooth connectivity that allows the nerdiest of workout analysis.

This model currently only comes in the “blackout” color, as other colors have been discontinued. The watch is made of resin with a solid, matte black finish. It’s large, built like a tank, and has a stealth-like military look. It has a thick, 17.50-millimeter case, which consists of a triple-layered structure that combines soft and hard, urethane with Alpha GEL. The watch is light and comfortable, but it will have a large presence on your wrist.
