It cost about half the price of a Canada Goose jacket, but is longer and covers me better. It might be a tad heavier to wear, but the fuzzy lining really keeps me cozy. I also strongly recommend a well lined leather coat for northern climates. Leather is the ultimate wind breaker, because it is non-porous. I’m sure there are also plenty of well-lined fake leathers out there for people who are against wearing the real thing.
The weather-lady on TV said that it was minus 30-something with windchill the other day. There may be a week or so later in winter when it’ll get down to minus 40 or so. I have a 3-in-1 Patagonia jacket that suits various degrees of cold/wet conditions and even though it’s on the pricey side of the category, it’s still only 2/3 the cost of a ‘cold only’ Canada Goose parka. I note that many down jackets & coats on offer these days, even those with expensive high-loft feathers, have cheap sewn-thru seams running through the fill.

It may be worth trying the size up to compare. Hey Richard, there are a few different styles of the Expedition so it’d be good to figure out which style they are selling whether it be regular, Fusion fit or the Polar Bear International Expedition. Each may differ in size slightly and the fusion will fit smaller than the regular. If you’re looking for the best size goose coat for you, I’d suggest referring to the measurements in the size chart, this will give you the most accurate answer. Hello Joanne, I would suggest the XS as you may find the small to be a bit large as your measurements are quite in the middle of the xs sizing. It never hurts to order it to try it on although if you like a more relaxed fit, the small would be fine.

The Patagonia Tres 3-in-1 above is a very nice casual piece with solid versatility, but you’ll likely have to layer underneath on the coldest winter days. Enter the Frozen Range, goose coat which is the warmest parka is Patagonia’s lineup and manages to look good to boot. And we love the buttons on the front, which help the Frozen Range look downright stylish.
But if you plan to do be outdoors, especially in a low activity state like winter wildlife photography, these garments are worth the money. Price wise $700+ is A LOT for any kind of jacket. Even some of my best suits never costed this much. But in comparison to Moncler, Canada Goose is somewhat of a bargain since Moncler starts at $1000 easily and are sometimes thousands of dollars. Also it maybe worth noting every year Canada Goose has raised their prices. I own a Langford men’s parka and when it first debuted it was $500 and now in 2015 it is $825.
