It takes some force to swap them out, but otherwise it’s a quick process. Just note that while the tripod mount is included in the standard package, DJI’s own micro tripod isn’t – that’s limited to the £469/$499 Creator Combo kit, which throws in a few other extras I’ll discuss later. The image itself produced by the wide angle 20mm lens isn’t the sharpest, either. We can be pretty sure that the 15mm wide angle lens converter included in the Creative Combo kit is softer still, though we have not used it.
If you want to splash out on the full £469/$499 Creator Combo you’ll get a micro tripod, wide-angle lens, Do-It-All handle, wireless mic receiver and windscreen , and a USB splitter charging cable. That detail even holds up during zoom – with up to 4x zoom in 1080p, dji fly 3x in 2.7K, and 2x in 4K – so you don’t have to get up close to get decent footage. Images can be processed or transferred using the Moza Artist app which accompanies the camera similar to smartphone gimbal apps on the market, such as Zhiyun’s ZY Cami app.
Its overall image quality is just okay, though it does have good dynamic range to bring out a fair range of details in highlights and shadows. However, it doesn’t have a viewfinder to help you frame shots more carefully, and its screen is very small. Building on the success of the original Pocket, the DJI Pocket 2 keeps the same small build but adds some even more functionality for creators. But these downsides, and any others, are effortlessly outweighed by the sheer convenience of the thing while still delivering results that are good enough 90% of the time. With a non-removable 875mAh cell battery life is never going to be the Pocket 2’s biggest strength, but that’s a necessary compromise for its size. Still, it now shoots at either 16Mp or 64Mp, with 8x zoom – double that of the video modes.
It’s incredibly portable, making it easy to take on the go, and it has a very good battery life, though this can vary with real-world conditions. Its built-in gimbal also does an incredible dji drones job of smoothing out camera shake. That said, its image quality is just okay, and it has a fixed focal length and aperture, giving you less flexibility to compose different shots.
This time it’s a mirrorless interchangeable lens model, rather than a compact with a fixed lens. On the whole however, it does a pretty solid job with people and animals alike. The DJI Pocket 2 can be adjusted to pursue the intended subject. The mode I find most useful, however, is FPV and coupled with 2x zoom, it closely replicates how my eyes perceive things in reality, while the built-in microphone doesn’t disappoint.
