Dysons 360 Eye Robot Vacuum Succeeds By Seeing More

Keep up basic maintenance to make sure you’re not accused of mistreating the thing should something go wrong. Get the location of the dock wrong, or have a door at the wrong angle so that there’s only a small gap between it and furniture, and the 360 Heurist can miss out entire areas of your home. For me, the initial position of the dock meant that the 360 dyson robot vacuum Heurist became confused and wouldn’t venture outside of the lounge. The 360 Eye came in last place on the rice test, picking up just 2.18 ounces on the plush carpet, 1.85 ounces on the berber-style carpet, and 2.13 ounces on the hardwood floor. At the same time, the Neato Botvac Connected picked up significantly more rice on each flooring surface. I doubly enjoyed the compact and foldable charging dock that comes with this bot, although I occasionally had to wiggle the vacuum around for its contact sensors to correctly line up with the dock so it would charge. Pricing on the potential robot vacuum isn’t certain, though the Heurist retails for £800 (~$1,088). The new filing doesn’t guarantee that Dyson will ever release the 360 Hyperdymium, much less in the states, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for a potential release date or new details. Dyson filed papers with the FCC that show a flatter and wider robot vacuum than those it released in other markets.

I’d love to see the day when the robot vacuum evolves to be more like Rosie from The Jetson’s, and can proactively address all of the cleaning and housekeeping duties. For now, though, I’ll just keep reviewing new devices as they come out until I finally find one that comes close. Double-duty as a mop – One thing that’s worse than vacuuming is mopping. My experience with the mopping capabilities has been less-than-stellar, but it’s better than nothing at all. The ‘bot can climb up to 15mm with those treads, but the combination of high-level suction and nylon bristles also makes it well-suited to Japan’s tatami mats — lots of nooks, but also relatively delicate fibers. Which is convenient, as the 360 Eye will be coming to Japan first, in the spring of 2015.

Whether it’s worth that much money to pick up a 360 Eye will depend on your commitment to achieving a clean house without being too personally involved in the process. I actually ultimately stopped using my Roomba, which cost considerably less, because it wasn’t really effective enough to deal with the trade-offs. The 360 Eye has been a much more effective cleaning companion over the past couple of weeks.

What information is available has come via The Verge, which discovered that Dyson had filed details of a new product with the FCC. On the filed documents, the new robot vacuum cleaner is just called the RBO3. The FCC filing could indicate that the brand is ready to launch the machine in the US. Carpets and rugs didn’t fare quite as well, particularly when trying to extract pet hair. The very best Dyson you can buy right now is the V15 Detect Absolute (£599).

It turns off the suction and brush bar when it’s driving too and from the base station, and also while it pauses and works out ways around objects. As the 360 Heurist costs £799.99 in the UK, we’d expect the new robot vacuum cleaner to come in at a similar – or slightly higher – price point. In the US, we would anticipate a price point of $1,099.99 or more. 2000Pa has fast become the norm when it comes to the suction power of the best robot vacuums. So, if your budget allows, we’d recommend looking for vacs around this number.

If accurate, that’s pricey compared with iRobot’s Roomba and competing products. Dyson’s website says the 360 Eye has, “Twice the suction of any robot vacuum” with the caveat that, “Suction testing based on ASTM F558, dust-loaded against robot market.” I was impressed with the 360 Eye’s tread-like wheels, though; they raise up when needed so the vacuum could travel over large power cords and transitions between hardwood floors and carpet.

However, cheaper options are available that sport around 1500Pa which are still perfectly capable. Run the vacuum cleaner over new carpet and its bin will come back full of fluff; run it on a hard floor and you’ll be amazed at how much dirt this robot picks up. Running the vacuum cleaner through some tests with flour spilt on the floor in various locations, the 360 Heurist proved itself to be a winner. Spot cleaning – Many of the robot vacuums include a mode you can use if there is a spill or mess in one particular area.
