Alen Breathesmart Flex Air Purifier Review

It lacks many features that equivalent air purifiers even at lower price points have. CADR Ratings are the most objective way to judge the filtration effectiveness of an air purifier. CADR stands for Clean Air Delivery Rate and measures the volume of clean air delivered by an air purifier. Three types of pollutants are considered and CADR ratings are provided for each pollutant type. I keep stressing that Activated Carbon filters are essential for any air purifier. This is because the level of gaseous pollutants inside homes can be much higher as compared to the outdoors.

This is quite a long lifespan for a HEPA filter, with many other manufactures suggesting replacing the filter after 6 months or a year if used infrequently. However as the replacement filters cost up to $119.00, I hope it proves to be true. It will certainly be interesting to monitor the performance over the year to see how well the filter holds up. With the purifier now turned on, I first noticed the power button illuminate. Rather than a mere design feature, the color of this light indicates the quality of air in the room.

This is a pre-test review, meaning we have not yet personally tested it. Our review is based off of manufacturer specs and other public information. Our scores are estimates based on our prior air purifier tests and research relative to the known specs about the Breathesmart line. This air purifier has four different kinds of filters to choose from. The stats above are based on the Classic air purifier, but different spaces call for different models. The BreatheSmart lineup spans from a purifier for 700 sf up to 1300 sf.

We’re going to look into all filter options for a specific unit in the individual BreatheSmart reviews further on. All Alen air purifiers have exceptionally high CADR ratings. The BreatheSmart FLEX, FIT50, and Classic have 225, 220, and 300 CADR rating, respectively. To properly review all Alen BreatheSmart air purifiers, we need to look at all 5 specification sheets.

The BreatheSmart Classic also has excellent area coverage, up to 1,100 square feet, which is perfect for large, open-concept spaces. As current air quality conditions change, the colored ring in the center of the purifier will change colors. We mentioned that the unit has two safety cut off switches, which help make it a more child friendly unit. The unit cannot run without the front panel, and it cannot run without a filter inside of it. Occasionally, if the filter, or the door panel is not seated firmly, the unit will not detect it and will not turn on. A quick adjustment of the filter will resolve this, but it is not immediately apparent to new users so we have taken a few calls related to this issue.

The BreatheSmart Classic purifier has a fixed size, but it also offers two interchangeable covers. If you need to send the lasko pedestal fans unit back, we’ve got you covered. If your unit has an issue in a year, we can walk you through the warranty process.

There are more effective and less expensive air purifiers available. In any case, I will review the BreatheSmart Flex in full to give all the information about it. Now this in itself is not bad as over time the filter will still catch a large majority of particulate pollutants and improve the air quality in your home.

I would recommend that you use the ionization feature in a room of at least 200 sq ft and keep it away from furniture and walls so the ozone doesn’t mess up anything in the room. Say goodbye to airborne pollution like allergens, dust pollen, and smoke odors. If you want a more aesthetic way to keep your air pure, check out our review of the Purifan air purifier .
