Air-cured leaf is packed into large, oak whiskey barrels and placed under pressure where it undergoes anaerobic fermentation. Periodically during fermentation , the tobacco is unpacked, worked to separate the leaves, aired out and then repacked for additional months of pressure treatment. With care, a briar pipe can last a very long time without burning out. However, due to aggressive smoking or imperfections in the wood, a hole can be burned in the tobacco chamber of the pipe. There are several methods used to help prevent a wood pipe from burning out. Milan, Joe was a passionate pipe smoker who created his own blend in the 1950’s and proudly recommended it to nearly every pipe smoking customer with whom he conversed.
