At first glance, the biggest difference between the Series 9 and the Series 7 is size. The Series 9 is longer, has more girth, and is more top-heavy, all due to its quadruple-headed shaving mechanism. While the Series 7 is powerful enough for most shaving situations, Braun’s Series 9 is the top-performing shaver we’ve tried that we find worth the additional expense—at least for certain situations. If you have particularly curly or coarse hair, or if you wish to shave less frequently but achieve the same level of closeness, this may be the shaver for you.
An online website as well as a demonstration on Howard Stern’s show garnered attention. Remington foils are more brittle compared to the rest, at least that was my experience with them for the past 20 years or so. I also Philips Norelco Shaver found that to be the case with Andis and Wahl shavers, while Panasonic and Braun foils were usually on top in terms of longevity. That said, the Arc 3 is usually more expensive than the Norelco Shaver 2300 and the replacement foil and blades are also pricier. I would however recommend it mostly to users with light to medium facial hair.
But when you consider how many razors and bottles of shaving cream you buy in a year, plus the convenience factor, you may determine that the price is worth it. There is a three level battery indicator, or LED display on the front of the shaver so you’ll always know how much power you have left. It has V-Track Precision Blades and Contour Detect Technology.
While Philips doesn’t recommend it explicitly in the user manual, it’s probably a good idea to do a more in-depth cleaning of the cutters themselves every once in a while. Using your shaver’s pop-up trimmer will just take a lot of time and I imagine it won’t be very enjoyable. I think I’ve mentioned this in every test, but the trimmers on Panasonic shavers are just in a different league, so much sharper and effective. I personally prefer it to the click-on trimmer attachments of the more expensive Philips razors.
The reason is that a blade of low quality will wear off quickly, which will cause tugging and pulling of your hair and won’t shave as clean as it would normally. Ultimately, this will cause more application of pressure on your skin and will consequently cause irritation and razor burn as you would need to go severally over the same area. For optimum versatility, this shaver from Norelco is also equipped with 20 length settings, which offers you a lot of flexibility while shaving.
First, testers used the razors at whatever their standard “I need a shave” interval was. We then asked for a double-growth test—skipping a shave—and, as a go-for-broke scenario, a triple-growth test. The top-of-the-line Philips Norelco model is the best rotary shaver we’ve ever used. Into a beard styler, a precision trimmer or a cleansing brush.
But good luck getting that to fly when the design of that phone prevents the home-gamer from getting his hands dirty without destroying the device during the repair process. I’ve replaced a prematurely swollen battery (1yo, never fast charged, never below 15%), it was a nightmare due to the super-complicated glue gasket. Would be nice if they’d stop making crippled or “feature reduced” phones for the US and Canada market.
Flipping the shaving unit over reveals that the blades are locked into position by orange retaining rings. In fact, the shaver only ways 5.9 oz (that’s just over 165 grams for you metric folk). After many years of utilizing a manual mode, your skin must have become accustomed to it already. So when you make a switch to a new electric model, it might take about one or two weeks for your skin to properly accustom to it.
Everything else about the shaver is so well engineered, yet it feels like the retaining ring system was implemented without much thought as to usability. This is a brand new blade design which Philips has named the “V-Track Precision Blade”, because of the V-shape of the blades. Not exactly creative, but then again Philips have a track record for boring names. When the battery runs flat simply connect the charger that is included in the box to recharge the battery. Each button gives a satisfying “click” sound when pressed and are all within easy reach of your thumb.
