The iRobot Roomba is the Best Robot Vacuum Cleaner I’ve Ever Used

After reviewing the results, we believe that the best robot vacuum is the Roborock S4 Max. It was one of the top performers for picking up Cheerios, kitty litter and pet hair. Robot vacuum cleaning styleAffordable robot vacuums will clean in a more haphazard pattern, rolling across the floor and turning around whenever they bump into a wall. From the earliest models on, Roomba vacuum cleaning robots have been hacked to extend their functionality. The first adaptations were based on a microcontroller that was directly connected to the motor drivers and sensors. Versions manufactured after October 2005 contain an electronic and software interface that allows hackers to more easily control or modify behavior and remotely monitor its sensors.

To put its obstacle-evasion technology to the test, we intentionally placed dog toys that have tripped up other robot vacuums in its path. Without fail, the Ozmo T8 AIVI detected shark cordless the toys in its way and changed directions accordingly. The iRobot Roomba j7+ might induce sticker shock, but it’s one of the smartest standalone robot vacuums you can buy.

The Neato Botvac D7 Connected makes our list of the best robot vacuums because it’s the fastest, and one of the smartest, robot vacuums we’ve tested. It finished our tests in an average of 10 minutes, 22 seconds, blitzing through pet hair, Cheerios, and kitty litter — and picking up a great deal of them, too. However, it wasn’t as effective as our top two picks, the Shark Ion R85 dyson robot vacuum and the iLife V3s Pro, at collecting debris. That means you must choose between cleaning one zone at a time or tackle the whole house, which isn’t ideal. If you don’t care about room-specific cleaning, this is a great choice of robot vacuum that will get the job done. This new robot vacuum cleaner from Wyze makes our list because of its exceptional performance on hard floors.

Previously a base model to consider, the newer options offer better power and more functionality than this Roomba. The E5 is a midrange option with five times the suction power of the 600 series, but still slightly less than the i7 and i3. It lacks smart mapping but features advanced sensors to help it navigate around furniture and along edges.

Both robots are on a level playing field when it comes to cleaning power and both models feature Imprint Smart Mapping. However, the newer j7+ trounces the i7+ in terms of design – its Clean Base is also much better looking – and extra features like obstacle avoidance. That’s why iRobot brings you the Roomba® family of vacuuming robots. Before your robot starts cleaning, pick up small items you don’t want vacuumed (check under the bed!), and ensure that power cords, clothing, rug fringe and window blind cords are tucked away. After cleaning, empty the dust bin and wipe down the sensors and charging contacts with a soft cloth so the robot can navigate more accurately and make a better connection with the charger. With its wonderfully quiet motor, we almost forgot the Bissell EV675 was maneuvering its way through our test rooms, running for up to 100 minutes before it needed recharging.

It doesn’t route itself intelligently around your house, so it might not be ideal for super-large areas, but it should work well enough in average-sized rooms. Its dual-roller design is effective on multiple types of surfaces, too, and you can buy virtual barriers to keep it out of certain rooms. Whether you’re looking for a vacuum for your home, office, or car or for something that’s best for stairs or households with pets, Sam’s Club carries a variety of models to meet your needs. In August 2012, the 500 series was superseded by the 600 series, which added the AeroVac Bin and advanced cleaning head as standard features.

It comes loaded with filters and dust bags for the base, plus replacements for each. Some of the higher-end Roombas also include intelligent features that allow the vacuum to “talk” to the robot mop, allowing a tag-team approach to cleaning. The Roomba app will also log the machine’s cleaning history so users can keep track of which areas have been vacuumed. To use the convenient voice-activation feature, most models are compatible with Alexa or Google Home. As a bonus, some models can also be linked with iRobot’s smart mops for coordinated cleaning. Vacuum Direct also carries replacement batteries and AC power supplies to keep your favorite robotic home-cleaning unit full of juice and ready to go.

That said, it struggles somewhat when it comes to sucking up debris that’s been embedded deeply within carpet fibers. It operates pretty quietly, making it a solid option for discrete autonomous cleaning. Dual Multi-Surface Brushes, a specially designed Edge-Sweeping Brush, and suction clean everything from small particles to large debris from your carpets and hard floors. Some of the robot vacuum models rely on built-in camera and computer image processing to map your rooms, enabling systematic and more efficient vacuuming. Like its more expensive sibling the Roomba S9 Plus, the J7 Plus can empty its own dustbin. The robot’s CleanBase docking station both charges it and vacuums it free of debris automatically.
