Thomas Page, a consultant for national law enforcement and longtime customer of Detroit Bikes, has purchased 15 models from the company. Page also worked with Pashak to design bikes for the University of Detroit Mercy campus for students and faculty to use. Bicycle manufacturing in America has declined significantly in the past several decades. Not only is Schwinn one of the most well-known brands of bike in the US – it is also one of the oldest. The company was founded in 1895, making it over 100 years old. It was started by a mechanical engineer in Chicago who gave the company his name – Ignaz Schwinn. Marc Muller, a young new Schwinn engineer, was given the responsibility to head up the project.
