ALEN BREATHESMART Classic True HEPA Air Purifier, White

The next step was sealing up our 150-square-foot testing room and filling it with smoke by burning paper and other testing materials. We monitored the air with a Dylos air quality monitor; once the room reached our desired level of airborne particulate pollution, we kicked on the BreatheSmart lasko pedestal fans 75i for an hour. After 30 minutes, there were only 16.62% of the original particulates left floating in the air, .003% after 45 minutes, and 0 detectable particulates after an hour. While the odor from the burnt paper wasn’t entirely eliminated, it was severely reduced.

As current air quality conditions change, the colored ring in the center of the purifier will change colors. Of course, this performance comes at a cost, but its performance backs up its price tag and is helped by being very energy efficient. I’m pleased to say it has lived up to the expectations of an Alen product. By putting it through its paces in a variety of real-world tests, it proceeded to tick all the boxes.

To get the purifier up and running is ridiculously simple. Once everything is unwrapped, open the front hatch via the air inlets on the side of the machine and slot in the HEPA filter, with the pre-filter facing towards you. Then once connected to mains, hit the power button and you’re alen breathesmart good to go. Although its price comes in at the higher end of the mid-range market, you’ll struggle to find another purifier for under $450 that boasts 5 air changes per hour in an 800 sq. Ft room with a CADR rating of 245, along with the real-world performance to back it up.

While quite a few devices were cheaper to run, this was nowhere near the highest annual cost. When testing each machine’s ease of use, we looked at a couple of key features. First, we timed how long it took to get the device out of the box and set it up. It took our testers about five minutes to get the BreatheSmart 75i up and running, which is pretty average when compared to most other models. While we all want to be in a room breathing clean air, some machines are simply too noisy and distracting to make it feel worthwhile.

This worked well for me however this could provide a challenge if you only have an upright vacuum cleaner. With the purifier now turned on, I first noticed the power button illuminate. Rather than a mere design feature, the color of this light indicates the quality of air in the room. There are five colors in total, from purple which is poor through to red, orange, green, and finally, blue which signals excellent air quality.

Welcome to our comprehensive and in-depth look at the Alen BreatheSmart – one of the world’s most popular air purifiers for both homes and professional offices. Here you’ll find a ton of great information about the BreatheSmart, as well as a detailed breakdown of what you can expect from your unit in our Alen BreatheSmart review at the end. That kind of power and speed might not sound ideal, but the Alen Breathesmart Classic opts for better airflow rather than relying solely on fan speed. Placed in the right position, it can cover a room the size of 1100 square feet.

The model receives a strong score for noise levels at high and low speeds. Its energy and operating costs, including filter replacements, run roughly $140 annually, which is significantly less than the other standout models in our ratings. And it covers up to 1,300 square feet, which is much more than the others highlighted here. Three upgraded replacement filters are available for the Alen BreathSmart air purifier. The lasko pedestal fans Classic air purifier is a large purifier designed for XL spaces, cleaning up to 1,100 sf.

Although your air purifier may still do some good in your entire apartment due to natural air circulation, air purifiers work best in the room they’re placed in. Air purifiers can’t work through walls or doorways, nor can they typically travel up stairs for loft-style apartments. It’s best, then, to get two smaller units and place one in each room.

When the light turns from green to yellow, it means it is time to order a new filter. Turn on the ionizer to activate ozone-free and eliminate airborne particles. The air intake vents are at the sides of the unit, allowing the airflow from bottom to top. The air filter is positioned behind the front panel allowing it to sit flat against the wall without blocking any airways.

Alen BreatheSmart 75iThe Alen BreathSmart 75i protects 1,300 square feet of space from 99.99% of harmful air particulates greater than 0.1 microns. With the addition of a True HEPA filter, the Alen Breathesmart Classic Large Room Air Purifier knocked out its biggest flaw. Sure, replacement filters cost a pretty penny, but the pre-filter does wonders in keeping filter life lasting longer.
