This model reviewed here is toted as the EasyClean Braun Series 5 and it shaves wet or dry. The Braun Series 5 is an electric shaver from a series of 1 – 9 manufactured by the popular German company, Braun. The 2020 Series 5 models use a new shaving head called 53b. The best way to clean a waterproof shaver is with a bit of liquid soap and warm tap water.
It offers not only a comfortable use but also a close shave. Therefore, these razors capture as many hairs as possible, guaranteeing fastness and efficiency each time. I’m used to the 5 series shaver and although this is a 5 according to Braun, it’s more like a 5a type. It is very ergonomic in your hand and easy to use.

Blades – This shaver is a foil type that operates with three flexible blades. These movable blades adapt to the contours of Remington Shaver a user’s face. Works well, easy to hold and use even with limited use hands. Not as close as some but no neck rash issues.
It is very easy to clean and can be washed with warm water without removing the blades while shaving with it, but after using it, it still requires cleaning properly. I still remove the blades to make sure it’s cleaned very well. This model has a fixed shaving head which is not as flexible while shaving as the higher-priced flexible head models. Buyers are looking at paying more for shavers with a flexible head compared to this model. Very good ergonomics and the slimline design with hand grips does make the series 5 very comfortable to use. The most fragile part of this shaver and all other electric shavers seems to be the head section with the cutters otherwise the whole unit feels solid.
Daily – Using the Braun Series 5 every day kept the shave very close all the time, although I am not a fan of shaving the neck daily as it can cause me irritation. This shaver was very good at not giving me neck irritation grief, that really surprised me. 2 – 3 days – This was the ideal range and a lot easier, well……….two days was best. I had to spend a few minutes shaving but it was easy and there were fewer patches of hair to pick up on after.
As we mentioned earlier, Braun’s charger is the only one to ship with a coiled cord. Like the kind you find on the handset of your office phone. In an effort to help those of you with poor shaving technique, the shaving heads have a certain amount of give.
I’d say that the 5018s and the rest of the models in this lineup will be suitable for someone with light to medium facial hair. The power button is also used to activate the travel lock function; you do that by pressing and holding the button for Braun Series 5 3 seconds. It also means the shavers will only operate cordless, so you can’t use them while charging. This design of the shaver, with a cutout right underneath the shaving unit, allows you to rinse off the stubble without removing the cassette.
This is best used when movement would make shaving tricky, like just above your upper lip. Unlike all the other electric shaving brands, Braun’s cleaning cartridges are alcohol based. Oddly enough, the cleaning station looks near identical to that found in the box of Braun’s top end shaver, the Series 9. It’s definitely one of the better looking cleaning docks on the market. As you can see in the image above, it is pretty straightforward to engage the pop-up precision trimmer. You need to push the button at the back and slide the precision trimmer.
