Why Dyson’s robot vacuum took 16 years, and why it’s headed to Japan first

The product of years of research, the Dyson 360 Eye has an app for remote access and a 360-degree camera. The camera captures up to 30 frames per second and uses that info to track where it is, where it’s been, and where it shark cordless still needs to go. The thing that holds it back from being a bestseller is the price.

The 360 Eye does not look anything quite anything the current crop of robot vacuums. Combines the 78,000rpm Dyson digital motor V2 with patented Radial Root Cyclone™ technology, for powerful suction. Today at the International Conference on Robotics and Automation in Philadelphia, Dyson revealed “secret robot prototypes” that are part of broader research it’s managed to keep a tight lid on thus far. The reveal included some shots of a robot arm that looks fairly similar to smaller industrial models from companies like ABB. I was able to do so successfully, but the voice commands are not robust enough. You can only turn the vacuum on or off, not command it to vacuum a specific section of the house. I was hoping I could tell it to vacuum a room I wasn’t planning on using at the time as a work around for the app not having that functionality, but this is also not possible. So the sight of so much dog fur even after all bissell crosswave cordless those efforts was truly horrifying. But when I pressed the trigger to activate the vacuum, my mouth gaped open and I began spewing profanities.
