Kiam sold controlling interest in Remington to Ike Perlmutter prior to the Clairol acquisition that same year. Remington changed hands again in June 1996 when Perlmutter and Kiam sold controlling interest in the company to Vestar Capital Partners. In 2003, the Kiam family and Vestar sold Remington to the battery company Rayovac. If a close shave is your top priority, you may find that an electric razor Remington Shaver simply cannot compare to a manual one. If you want a good rotary shaver but don’t have a sky-high budget, the Shaver Series 5000 is a great step up from the Remington Style R4. You should also follow the manufacturer’s instructions for replacing foils and cutting blocks. Braun recommends replacement every 18 months (the block and foil come as a single unit, running about $30 for the Series 7 and $50 for the Series 9); Philips Norelco and Remington recommend annual replacement. The F has the look of a Braun clone and uses a proven dual-foil system with a center lift-and-cut trimmer mated to a pivoting head. But unlike the Braun Series 7 foil block, which pivots along two axes, this less-expensive shaver pivots only up and down. Although no cleaning system is available, you can easily rinse the shaver under running water.
Was good at removing excess to enable main shaver to get in to finish the job. Able to work in the shower so that is a positive and battery life so far has been great. Comes with a stubble spacer for a stubbly shave but have not used this yet. Worth a look in as a daily shaver but didn’t fit in with my grooming requirements. It left way too many rash scratches and cuts which I’ve never had before on any other shaver and left my skin feeling raw and attacked. I have an old Braun 5070 About 15yrs old which sounds like a buzz saw when switched on that leaves the skin silky smooth from a dry shave. I could tell just turning them on together just how weak this Remington was. But even so it didn’t have a speed setting so I assume that’s the only speed it can go and if it’s that slow I can’t imagine many men’s necks being too happy with the Remington R4.
