Though the blades will eventually need to be replaced, likely after a year or so, they tend to last much longer than traditional razors do. At full power this device sounded like it was run by hearing aid batteries. It was so slow with its blades it instantly gave me around 4 to 5 cuts on my neck. I persisted with using it until the end for the review but I could not use it a 2nd time.
It doesn’t help that in the name of simplicity the Heritage has a single on-off control, with no adjustable settings at all. There is a small detail trimmer on the back, but I also found this underpowered, not to mention awkward to pop in and out of the razor’s body. The short, squat design is pointedly old-fashioned thanks to its ridged metallic finish and low-key colour scheme – a far cry from the ergonomic black obelisks that are more common in the modern razor. We believe the Braun Series 7 is worth its higher price, but the Remington F is a surprisingly competent budget alternative. It provides credible stubble-leveling results at an affordable price. Braun’s top-of-the-line electric razor offers the best shave—even for heavy beards—at a higher price.
If the Remington MB4040 is fully charged and it continually sounds like it is low on battery the motor may be faulty. Remove and replace the motor by using the guide with the attached link. If the trimmer intermittently stops working with the power switch still in the ‘on’ position it is possible the device has overheated and the thermal switch has activated and shut off the device to protect it from any damage. If the trimmer feels very warm to the touch, give it 10 minutes or more to cool down before continuing use. If it does not feel warm and the problem persists the thermal switch may be defective.
