Weber Q1200 Review: Portable Beauty or a Overweight Beast?

Just set up the grill so that the lid opens away from the wind, creating a natural wind barrier. It also works very well in temperatures below freezing, for those of you crazies who insist on doing that. I feel there one massive strike against it being genuinely portable. It’s around 30 lbs and is a bit cumbersome to transport without wheels. Out of the box, it feels a little clunky and awkward. It isn’t the type of grill you would be willing to carry very far.

Those accustomed to cooking on a full-sized grill know that a warming rack makes a difference to your barbecuing. Purchased at bjs problem is the 16 oz propane cans do not fit without forcing the regulator to the side because the can is forced weber q sideways by the handle. I have seen this complaint in other reviews WEBER needs to get off their arse and fix this. I called Weber they recommended I loosen all, the screws so I could try and get the can to fit that way…how ridiculous.

The grill grates are the toughest part to clean, but they are small enough that they will fit in a dish tub to soak when you’re away from home. There is also a very durable porcelain coating covering the grates. Preheating is a requirement because if the grates aren’t hot, your food could bake right on.

The LP model comes with an adaptor hose to connect to a 20lb propane tank. The natural gas model includes a hose and fittings to connect to a barbecue service line, should you have one. The 1200 is one of three grills in the Q 1000 series.

I’ve also noted this issue up in the Quality section of this review. I agree it’s an obvious design flaw they should have caught and should fix. Also, keep in mind that if you have issues lighting the grill, read the manual to learn how to troubleshoot the igniter, regulator, and burner. I’m embarrassed at how long it’s taken me to publish this review, but here I am, four years after the redesign, dragging my feet to compile all of my notes. We purchased the Weber Q 2200 so our review could put it to the test in her kitchen. The Weber Q 2200 Gas Grill makes it easy and convenient to grill on the go, but it’s spacious enough for everyday home use, as well.

Portable grilling gets an upgrade by the masters at Weber. The Weber Q 2200 is an attractive little grill if I do say so myself. It has a tan lid with the Q series logo on top, and it’s made up of a cast aluminum lid and body supported by a reinforced nylon frame. The brand also sells cast iron griddles you can swap in for more versatility. The Weber Q 3200 has the largest cooking area of all the Weber Q gas grills with 393 square inches of grilling space. The Q 3200 also comes with a stand for the grill, making it the only freestanding Weber Q model.
