Dyson’s Robot Vacuum Has 360-Degree Camera, Tank Treads, Cyclone Suction

A full charge from a dead battery will take three hours on a 980; however, you will get 2 hours of run time. In a real-world test, the charge lasts about an hour and a half, which is still twice as long as the Dyson. Lithium-ion is the reigning champion of rechargeable, long lasting batteries and both the Roomba 980 and the 360 Eye use them.

And as recent research concludes, much simpler and far less expensive prosthetic devices can perform many tasks equally well, and the fancy bionic hands, despite all of their electronic options, are rarely used for grasping. Comparing the two against each other though, I would pay for the Roomba 980 before I ever considered the Dyson 360 Eye. The added features, extra sensors, and longevity of the reliable brand still mean something and its performance is still top notch. Dyson makes great products; however, the robot vacuum 360 Eye is not their best effort to date. Lifting dirt and debris into the vacuum chamber to be collected by the bin is the one thing a vacuum has to do. It doesn’t matter how powerful the motor is or how large the collection bin is if you don’t have extractor bars the dirt will never leave the floor.

The brush bar on the Dyson 360 Eye vacuum cleaner extends to the full width of the machine, meaning that it doesn’t rely on side sweepers to reach the edges of the room. It uses patented carbon fiber brush bar technology to remove fine dust on hard floors, and stiff nylon bristles to agitate and clean carpets. Combine suction power and motorized brush this robot vacuum is capable of cleaning pet hair on bare floor and carpet.

No machine, declared the Christian philosopher William Paley, is “more artificial, or more evidently so” than the flexors of the hand, suggesting deliberate design by God. We don’t have information from Dyson as bissell crosswave cordless to how much the 360 Eye will cost, but according to some rumors, it might be US $1,650. This, obviously, is a lot, but if it really can take over as a vacuum replacement robot , it could conceivably be worth it.

Basically, the 360 Eye stands as proof that Dyson can make as big a splash in the robot vacuum market as it has nearly everywhere else. Still, at $999, we think it’s worth waiting for the next version. As impressive as Dyson’s clever technology is, there are robot vacuums that clean better for less. The Roomba 980 has a top mount video camera that allows it to map the cleaning area with a visual map.

There are certainly Dyson fans out there who will buy a Heurist no matter what. If you cannot abide vacuuming, and only want to do it every couple of weeks to grab any spots a robot might have missed, then perhaps this vacuum is for you. However, at £799.99, this is no small investment, especially given the significant weaknesses with this vacuum. While it scored well in our larger debris pick-up tests, it scored poorly in our finer debris pick-up tests.

Larger obstacles such as lamp bases are attempted to go over. However, there are numerous reports that the robot will try to go over any obstacle and easily gets stuck, resulting in a shut down of the machine and the need for a manual rescue. The Dyson 360 Eye has advanced visual technology that makes it the best robot vacuum in terms of navigation and mapping. It won’t collide with objects and furniture near as much as the competition.

For me, the latter feature proved useful for a coffee table that has an X-shaped set of legs that run across the floor. While the majority of robot vacuum cleaners make do with wheels, the Dyson 360 Heurist has a pair of tank tracks, designed to propel the robot over obstacles and through longer-pile rugs, for example. Most robot vacuum cleaners are short and wide, but Dyson has opted for a taller, narrower design with the 360 Heurist. Here, the vacuum cleaner can squeeze through gaps, such as chair legs, which stop other cleaners, yet the height means that the 360 Heurist can’t always fit underneath furniture.
