Old bikes often have hardened grease and new wally world’s sometimes have none at all , and in my experience, brakes and bearings are frequently out of adjustment.

If it was a normal bike, you might fix it by disassembling and cleaning the pawls in the freewheel, but with this setup it will be somewhat different.
