The overall design of the Duo and Duo Nova is almost the same with the exception of the front panel displays and pressure releases. Anyone with a big family (larger than 6 members) will find the 8-quart Instant Pot is a perfect instant pot duo nova option for everyday needs. That being said, due to its large and bulky size, this tool isn’t ideal for small kitchens. It’s also the most widely-used size, so many Instant Pot recipes are written with this one in mind.
Both Instant Pot Duo and Duo Nova are available in three convenient sizes (3-, 6-, 8-quart). But the newer version boasts one extra option (10-quart) to help you accommodate a wider variety of cooking styles. Another huge benefit of the Instant Pot Duo, and Instant Pots in general, is the easy cleaning process. Since everything is contained in a single pot, there is hardly any mess created whilst cooking. As you might expect, the Instant Pot Duo comes in cheaper than the Duo Nova across all the different pot sizes. The 10 qt Duo Nova is of course the most expensive but offers great value if you’re cooking in bulk or for a large group.

For the most part, we found the differences in cooking abilities to be minor between the models in our fleet. That being said, we thoroughly enjoyed the food made by the DUO Nova, with it earning superlatives instant vortex in most of our cooking tests. Some odors, especially from intense recipes, stick to the sealing ring. Consequently, milder recipes might pick up some of the odor/flavors if you use the same sealing ring.
