You also need to know the difference between centrifugal and masticating models. Centrifugal juicers use a fast-spinning blade to cut the produce and extract the juice while masticating or “slow juicers” crush the produce to achieve the same effect. While there are some excellent centrifugal models on the market, masticating models tend to be more efficient and get most or all of the juice out of the produce.
We looked at each component, noting any problems we found in cleaning them, whether or not they are dishwasher-safe, and include a cleaning brush. Unfortunately, performance dropped considerably when we tried juicing kale in the Big Mouth. Its yield was less than average, but only a minuscule amount of foam was produced.
Hamilton Beach did a little bit better than Breville did, in this regard. I thought the two machines were similar in performance, which surprised me since there was a significant price difference. When comparing, using similar amounts of produce going through both machines, they produced the same amount of juice. If the Breville produced better (by teaspoons, maybe), it was not enough to justify spending the extra money based on this alone. The pulp from Breville was a tad bit dryer, didn’t stick to my fingers as much, which suggests more juice having been extracted from it.

This juice also had moderate pulp and foam and separated relatively quickly. The Big Mouth centrifugal juicer finished near the middle of the best juicer pack. It does a better job at juicing hard and soft produce than many and retails for less than half of other centrifugal models. This juicer is also slightly easier to clean and handles leafy greens more than adequately. If you’re looking to only juice citrus fruits, and you need a fast, industrial kitchen-style juicer, then this is the perfect model for you.

I don’t see how purchasing a much more expensive machine would save money even in the long run, but I could be mistaken. Assembling the appliance is as easy as inserting its strainer and locking the lid with latches, and it has a straightforward on and off dial to operate it. The 3-inch mouth allows you to fit whole or halved fruits and vegetables in, so there’s minimal prep. I did like the two speed option on the Breville juicer, compared to one-speed-only on Hamilton Beach.
What I love most is the 2 speeds that allow you to chop up kale and more fibrous vegetables quicker. I also like the juice collection container is larger and features a froth filter on one side, so all the foam strains away from your finished juice. The larger hamilton beach toaster oven size mouth also allows for whole apples and larger fruits and vegetables so I didn’t have to cut everything into small pieces. For the last 3 years I have been drinking juicing recipes to keep up my vegetable intake but I also love the fresh taste!
