It did a great job of making the outsides of tater tots and the crusts of pizza nice and crispy. However, it sometimes left the insides of these foods just a tad underdone. This was no big deal for our testers that liked their pizza a little doughy, but disappointing for those that liked their pizza on the well-done end of the spectrum. Although it can toast 6 slices at once, in our tests, it didn’t brown the slices in the front as evenly as the ones in the back. In spite of the fact that they needed 18 minutes to cook to a medium doneness, the burgers were more gray than brown, although they were moist and juicy. The Cuisinart TOB-135 toasted bread unevenly, and its temperature control was less consistent, so we dismissed it.

For a relatively low price, this toaster oven stands out from a crowded pack of mediocre, cheap models. We found its performance and features to be comparable to those of larger and pricier toaster ovens. If you get a toaster oven with a convection setting, you can also use it for air frying (air frying is, after all, just convection baking). While the fan isn’t quite as powerful as the ones in most pod-shaped air fryers or air fryer toaster ovens, it produces similar results.
While a yellow cake baked up moist and tender in the recommended time, it didn’t rise very high and the top crust was quite dark and unevenly colored. The Breville Smart Oven Pro is nearly identical to the Breville Smart Oven. The Pro does add a couple of minor features, like a slow-cook mode and an internal light.
