Weber Q 2200 1-Burner White 12,000-BTU LP Gas Grill

I had leftover ground beef in the fridge, so I decided to grill up a burger for dinner. The grill was incredibly easy to use—with a push of the ignition button, a blue flame quickly shot up all around the stainless steel burner, which circles the bottom of the grill body. If you want a lighter grill and aren’t cooking for more than a few people, the Q1200 is a great option. If you want more room for food and are willing to lug around a bit more weight, then the Q2200 is more in line with what you are looking for. They both operate a single gas burner running on a one-pound propane bottle, but they can be upgraded to run on a 20-pound tank with an adapter hose sold separately. Even with only 8500 BTU’s, it can easily reach temperatures of 500° – 550° F on the highest setting.

I have to say, overall, I was impressed with what a good cooking performance the Weber Q 2200 offers up. Although it has a few limitations that you wouldn’t necessarily find with a whole grill, I did enjoy grilling on it. Weber grills are known as being some of the best but how does the Q 2200 hold up? Well, with great temperature regulation, grilling capabilities, heat retention, and ease of use, it readily measures up. She’s an expert on all things home, including kitchen appliances, grills, and other cooking gadgets.

The Weber Q portable gas grill was invented when Weber realized that many people were moving into the city where they wouldn’t have large backyards. Typically, people moved into apartments and all they had was a balcony for outdoor space. These small portable grills make for a great substitute in limited space as an alternative to a full-size grill. Portable grills are also great for bringing tailgating, to the beach, picnic areas, or campsites. Weber Q grills feature a lightweight cast aluminum body that’s rust resistant and durable.

This grill is the only Weber Q that can be bought as a natural gas grill model instead of a propane gas grill only. All portable grills, in our experience, struggle to control their internal temperature. Not surprisingly, this grill doesn’t offer the control of full-size grills.

Both types of grills feature a burner that wraps around the underneath a set of heavy duty cast iron cooking grates. The highlight of the Q 1200 is its porcelain-enameled cast iron cooking grates. This is the same material that is known as the signature of top-quality cookware like Le Creuset.

This is not a comprehensive list of all the models we’ve considered. Be sure to clean your grill thoroughly to keep it working as long as possible. If you use the grill only occasionally, you may need to wipe down the burner tubes to make sure they light effectively. The Traveler is big enough to cook for a crowd, looks great and doesn’t take up much space when not in use. The biggest differences between these grills are price, styling, construction and portability. In my testing the Traveler is great at searing steaks and has a relatively even heating profile.

Weber has replacement drip pans available to purchase, as well as covers to help keep the grills protected from the elements. It rarely needs a thorough cleaning, but even when it does, the weber genesis 2 100 is very simple to clean up properly. The Weber Q 100 gas grill is covered by a fairly extensive warranty.

The lids have built-in thermometers to monitor how hot the grill gets so you know when it’s ready for searing steaks or if you are trying to keep the temperature a bit lower. The Weber Jumbo Joe Charcoal Grill 18″ is the only charcoal portable we tried that can sear and cook foods about as well as a full-size backyard grill. It’s a good choice if you like cooking with charcoal or don’t want to spend a lot, but it’s less convenient than gas, especially when you’re on the go. The Char-Broil Grill2Go X200 Portable Gas Grill is a solid compact grill for remote cookouts because it’s rugged, lightweight, and easy to carry.

They have a tabletop model, the RoadTrip 225 Tabletop, that offers 225 square inches of cook space and up to 11,000 BTUs of heat across two burners. So, once again – if more portability and a lighter weight are top considerations for you, then the Q1200 would be the way to go. However, if you don’t mind the extra bulk and weight of a larger grill, then the Q2200 could be a viable option. It’s a great mid-range grill that’s great for home use but compact enough to take out about in certain circumstances.

Even after loading the Jumbo Joe grill with a full chimney starter’s worth of red-hot embers (about 90 briquettes), we could still tamp down the temperature to medium heat. We couldn’t do that with the 14-inch Weber Smokey Joe Charcoal Grill, where the single vent and the lack of airflow caused the coals to extinguish while we were cooking. Unlike Weber’s gas grills, the Grill2Go X200 latches tightly shut with two clips on the front. This allows you to effortlessly carry the whole thing with one hand (convenient if you need to lug it a few hundred yards). The Weber Q series grills are the most expensive portables we’ve tested.
