Although not specifically designed as a children’s bike the Dynacraft Vertical Gauntlet is 24” making is a great size for children and smaller adults looking to get into mountain biking. Like all Dynacraft products the Dynacraft Vertical Gauntlet is a high quality, durable bike that will perform well. This is an excellent bike for a young beginner rider. Kiddos as small as 2 can learn to ride a bike with training wheels (trust us, we’ve done it with all 3)! I feel it has given all 3 of our kids a sense of accomplishment learning at a young age, a sense of independence and confidence that translates into other areas of their development.

Dynacraft sent us a bike to test out which is perfect timing. It’s an 18″ Next Surge Boys’ BMX Bike in Black and Green. The helmet is not included and some assembly is required. I think my husband assembled it within 30 minutes or so, but he’s usually handy and he makes it look easy. It also comes with training wheels which my son still needs. Reality is, coaster brakes are far cheaper than hand brakes and are pretty typical of any kid’s bike under $200. With a longer wheelbase, our testers found the Kent Chaos to be the smoothest ride because they had sufficient room to ride, no crowding of legs! Its mid-rise handlebars allowed their arms to extend properly and maintain proper control of the bike. Although this bike is by far the heaviest, if you have a confident rider, at this price point the smooth ride outweighs the heaviness.
