The Vis Nav’s D-shaped design worked well for edge-to-edge cleaning, but this also meant it couldn’t quite get into the corners of the room.
It can clean for 50 minutes before automatically going back to the dock to charge, but it does pick up right where it left off when charging finishes. You can schedule and monitor cleaning using Dyson’s app, and it will clean more efficiently over time as it creates shark cordless dust maps of your home. The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra in comparison costs $1,599 / AU$2,699 (not available in the UK), but you can justify that price tag as it’s a self-emptying and self-cleaning (aka it’s mop gets cleaned and dried too) robot vacuum cleaner.
That doesn’t mean you won’t like Dyson’s Wi-Fi model, just be sure to weigh it against the competition before you buy. In Boost mode, I got 15 minutes out of a full charge on one test run and 13 minutes on another. That may not be enough to clean a full room, particularly if it’s a big one. What I didn’t realize when I first let Dyson Fury run loose in my test space was that a map is not created automatically.
However, the Dyson 360 Vis Nav robot vacuum cannot be used on damp or wet floors. While this is all very important stuff for any robot vacuum of note, the other major change to the 360 Vis Nav is its design. Ditching the “stubby puck” aesthetic of past models, this machine instead opts for a flatter and wider build in order to scoop up as much muck and dirt as possible at the first time of asking.
Those LEDs are important, as they ensure the device can navigate in the dark — handy if you want your robovac to clean when you’re out or asleep. The robot moved between the different rooms, vacuuming an area here, an area there. I quickly realized that this first mapping run was going to take time, so I tried limiting my “home” to just two rooms and a kitchen. Even so, the Dyson 360 Vis Nav took half an hour to map this relatively small space, something that models with a laser-based system can usually map in a couple of minutes. This didn’t bode well, but never mind–after all, you only need to do the initial mapping run once, or possibly on another occasion if you’re reorganizing your home or carrying out a major renovation.
