The 3 roof poles are made of fiberglass, which are a bit more flexible. I wouldn’t recommend putting this 10-person tent up on your own though, because it’s quite difficult to get the roof to prop up by yourself. Sometimes I worry that these fiberglass poles will break, because they’re not that sturdy. Two of my Boy Scouts bought new Ozark Trail tents and have had pole problems from the 1st camp out. The poles are so cheap they shatter during the first time up.
I thought Ozark Trail was supposed to be a good camping equipment manufacturer. I will make a point of staying away from Ozark stuff in future. I also bought on Ozark Trail wind resistant fire lighter but could not produce a flame with it. I might add that friends with me have been entertained by my joy with this tent and are intrigued by my use of my 1975 Coleman lantern and stove. I have modern equipment, but it doesn’t make me any happier in the forest. For all the reasons mentioned above, we’ve found that the Ozark Trail Three Room Instant Cabin is the best Ozark Trail tent overall.
I live in Canada and find these tents to be very good. If you a experienced camper like myself you would know that you have to use a tarp to cover your tent so that the water does not get inside when it rains. And you have to make sure that the zipper is closed well and also sprayed with a water repellent. But unfortunately, they are many morons out there that don’t know the first thing about camping. Not sure what season our tents were but, we had to get 4 of them. We, like some others, know that tents are NOT waterproof, so we sprayed the seams etc. with water replant.
Now you can velcro the tent’s walls to each of the poles and move outside to stake out the guy lines. Once you have all six of the lines out and the stakes secure, you’ll want to move back inside the tent and then extend the poles’ bottom portion to their full length. At this point, you can circle back around and tighten all of your stakes and lines and enjoy. Take each of the poles into the tent with you and start with the one with the Y-shaped piece on top.
