Don’t miss your chance to enjoy a ride on the legendary California Special by Mongoose. For almost 40 years, Mongoose has been in the dirt, on the trails and off the ramps. Founded in 1974 in a Southern California garage, Mongoose has always been an aggressive brand with products that push the limits of what a rider can do. From the biggest hits on the mountain or in the park to the urban jungle, Mongoose is an authentic brand that produces durable products built for real riders. In the early 1970s, BMX was born when riders in Southern California began racing bikes on motocross tracks. As the sport rapidly evolved, bike technology was pushed to its limits, and frequently beyond them as riders regularly damaged or bent their bike wheels.

Based on the original 1983 design, the new California Special is great for turning heads around the neighborhood or at the track. It features a Hi-ten steel Mongoose frame built on original geometry of a legend for superior performance and durability. The single speed drivetrain is easy to use and maintain, while the DiaCompe MX brake kit delivers super-fast, reliable stopping power. Plus, the unique Mongoose Pro Class drilled aluminum rims offer performance that won’t weigh you down.

The Legion L40 uses a 20.5-inch top tube, ideal for riders around 5’6”. Also, all Mongoose Legion BMXs will have the wheel size (20-inch diameter) unless it’s the Legion L16 or Legion L18 (which have 16-inch and 18-inch diameter wheels, respectively). It also has an integrated head tube which means a stronger frame. The rims are also wider, which not only makes them stronger but also less prone to pinch flats on hard landings. Motomag wheels were standard equipment on BMX bikes in the mid-1970s and defined the aesthetics of early BMX racing. In 1978, Mongoose launched the Motomag II, which built on the popularity of the first generation, and manufactured them until 1984.
