Razor E300 Electric Scooter Review: Style Meets Performance

A group of six kids, ranging in age from 1 to 10, navigated scooters around an obstacle course while we filmed and observed them. Drobnjak suggests starting with a more stable three-wheel scooter and then moving to a two-wheeler if kids want to be able to do more tricks and zoom faster. The EcoSmart Cargo is Razor’s latest attempt to tap the growing adult e-scooter market.

The Razor Icon is a great-looking electric scooter that pays tribute to the company’s first-ever scooter. And, it’s a good mid-range model for those who can afford something more than a budget electric scooter, but don’t want to pay for a premium model. Electric Razor scooters operate with a twisting throttle and can reach speeds of up to 15 miles per hour. Electric scooters are a popular form of transportation around the world to travel shorter distances than bike-riding allows, but longer distances than traditional scooter-riding permits.

If you stick to pavement, it’s a pretty smooth ride, and the soft seat was an added bonus for young bums. The brakes offer great stopping power, and there’s a small storage compartment under the seat that could fit a cell phone, keys, and a snack. With the push of a button, razor scooter the Swagger 8’s maximum speed can be changed on the go. Unfortunately, a parent can’t lock a child out of a higher speed, so exercise caution if your child is younger. The E8 has a lower 8.6 mph max, and a lower and more narrow handlebar, making it ideal for younger kids.

The 8-inch pneumatic rear tire softens the bumps in the road and the two rechargeable 12 volt batteries deliver up to 40 minutes of drive time. My family thought this would be a fun way to explore the Tacoma waterfront. The scooter failed razor hoverboards part way through the trip (with plenty of battery). Customer service on the app was a worthless BOT and I could not end my ride to stop the per-minute charges until I drug the 40 lb scooter a half mile back to the parking area.

Another huge break for the company came in 2012 when their EcoSmart Metro model was featured on CNN’s Anderson Cooper Live. Razor’s cargo scooter concept is great, but don’t plan on going too far with a full load. While it’s nice to have the reassurance of a mechanical brake, the Razor Icon’s electronic brake was responsive, and slowed me down quickly. I did find that it would continue to brake for a split second after I released the lever, which caused a weird sort of lag.

Customer service is very short and does not take the time to discuss your concerns. After getting stranded, walked to find a bird and it was night and day! Fix your scooters, the lack of maintenance is going to ruin your business. With that in mind, the Razor E100 is easy enough to carry around. You can dismantle the handlebars from the scooter to make it smaller if you need to store the scooter in a trunk or want to save space in your house, which is great, but this will require an allen wrench.

I checked the database of the US Consumer Product Safety Commission to see which scooters had been recalled recently and why. I also interviewed experts at companies that make scooters, among them a vice president at Razor and the US distributor of Micro, a Swiss scooter maker. At 26.5 pounds, the Razor Icon is the same weight as the Unagi Model One and GoTrax GXL V2.

Because they are plastic, they don’t provide any real cushioning over cracks and obstacles. They also provide minimal traction in wet conditions and also tend to result in a bumpier ride. In our testing, our kid testers didn’t mind a more narrow deck if it was long enough for them to comfortably rest both feet. For example, they loved the Segway Ninebot (middle below). While not as wide as the Mongoose (top), its additional length offered plenty of foot space.
