When you need to cover more area with better-quality images, you can switch to a more expensive system. Neutral density filters are extremely important when shooting video on a drone and should be your first purchase after getting spare batteries. ND filters limit the amount of light hitting the camera sensor on the drone.

My point is, the OSS is great to have, but for new pilots it could create a false sense of security. Yep, it’s not cheap, but DJI has made one of the smartest drones available with the phantom 4. Unlike our Phantom 3 rundown, we will not be treating all of the models of Phantom 4 together in this one. The Phantom 4 Pro is a step above the Phantom 4 standard in almost every way, and the Phantom 4 Advanced is up there as well.
I truly know of no drone in the $1500 – $2000 range that can best this machine. Indeed, I know of no other competing drone below $2000 with a full 1-inch camera sensor. As always, we have cropped and compressed the images and video to fit best on your screen, but they are otherwise un-altered. No color corrections, no white balancing, these are just the raw experience using the default settings of the Phantom 4 Pro. The first two images are actual photos taken using the camera mode, the remainder are stills pulled from the video. Responsive controls are key to a successful flight, as is the low latency FPV on either the built-in display of the Pro+ remote, or your mobile device on the normal Pro model.
The flight package is convenient, providing the battery and all the necessary cables and connectors for a successful flight. As always, second and third batteries would be great to have, this is a pleasant drone to fly, it’s sad when there’s no more juice. Considering the class of drone here, there is a good amount of competition out there.
But I generally prefer proprietary software provided by the drone company since it has likely been the most tested and vetted for their own platform. I look for the universal basics – the offline ability to set flight line overlap, design polygon missions , set AGL, gimbal tilt, etc. Then I look for the camera settings crucial for successful photogrammetry missions. The Return to Home feature on the Phantom 4 Pro 2.0 is much improved. It Phantom 4 Pro v2.0 function forms a map of its environment in real time. The quadcopter chooses the best flight path to return home and can senses as far as 300 meters away to avoid obstacles.
