Braun Series 5 5090cc Electric Shaver Review

A Panasonic Arc 4 with a mighty CPM motor will shave faster than a Series 5 that uses a CPM unit provided that your beard is reasonably short. The 5090cc/5190cc is very forgiving and gentle to Braun Series 5 the skin and I never experienced any discomfort or irritation. It really impressed me how it always provided a perfectly comfortable shave, even when I pressed harder than I normally would.

Braun Series 5

Inside the Series 5; the Lithium-ion battery takes an hour to charge and provides 45 minutes of shaving time. I was able to get a full shaves out of it before having to recharge the battery. Only disadvantage being that you cannot use this device when plugged in. If you don’t mind cleaning your shaver manually and you are comfortable using shaving creams, then 5040s is really a good find.

Series 5 is on par with Series 7 in terms of shaving closeness. With almost the same cutting elements, shavers from both series can satisfy most men. They do not deliver the closest shave in the category of foil shavers but are still at the top of the class. In addition, you will experience a lot more vibration and noise shaving with Series 5, whereas the counterpart gives you a less trembling and quieter shave.

It´s very strange that Braun starts to do a downgrade to his produts. But according you words, I understand that these machines (serie 5 & 7) are only for USA. While definitely more expensive than the 5018s, the 5140s is a better shaver in every way. The current Series 5 generation is still one of the more compelling options in the mid-range segment.

The beard trimmer works fine as long as you don’t try to go too fast. The Braun Series 5 has worldwide voltage adaptation and a convenient travel lock. There’s a Clean&Charge station to hygienically clean, lubricate and dry the shaver with a proprietary alcohol-based solution. Although our testers thought the Series 5’s cleaning cartridge was “kind of a pain to install”, they were pleased with its result.

And while the 3 cutting elements can move independently, the head unit of the 5018s is fixed. One of the models in this revamped line is the Braun 5018s (the UK/European version is called 50-B1200s). This Braun Series 5 particular Series 5 is bound to be the pick of the range thanks to its very reasonable price. The only difference between the 5190cc and 5195cc is that the latter also comes with a hard travel case.

So it’s overall a quiet razor, although not by any means as quiet as a rotary. It is one of the quietest Braun models I’ve used so far, on par with the Series 9 in this regard. I find it too large and unpractical and I would very much rather have a pop-up trimmer always at hand.

If you treat this as a shaver that you must use with the cleaning station then you won’t be disappointed. For you the simplicity and convenience the cleaning station brings will be more than worth the small price of buying replacement cleaning cassettes. As you may have guessed by the name, travel lock is most commonly used when you are squashing your electric shaver into an already overflowing luggage. Sliding this button locks the shaver head into 1 of 5 different positions and stops it from moving back and forth, ideal for shaving tricky areas like under the nose. Unlike all the other electric shaving brands, Braun’s cleaning cartridges are alcohol based.

Braun Series 5 shavers provide close and clean shaving performance with their three flexible blades. These men’s electric shavers provide an effortlessly close and easy shave, even in tricky areas. They also come with trimer attachments that help you trim and style your mustache and sideburns easily. Series 6 electric shavers are waterproof, making shaving convenient even in the shower or dry.

This shaver is 100% waterproof that makes the shaving process easier and secure. Beyond the waterproof body, the shaver offers efficient wet/dry shaving facility that allows you to have your preferred shaving condition. You’re probably referring to the 5195cc which is indeed an excellent model from the previous Series 5 generation . I own quite a few of the older Series 5, 7 and 9 and at least in my experience the 7 and 9 are better, but the Series 5 is no slouch either and holds its ground.
