How DJIs Phantom 4 RTK Delivers Reliable and Accurate Site Surveys

It’s not quite as good as Micro Four Thirds, another format used by drones like the huge Yuneec H920 ($1,799.00 at DJI) and the DJI Inspire 2 ($1,799.00 at DJI) , but it’s also quite compact. First, you get tried-and-true options, including Point of Interest, Waypoint, Follow, Course Lock, and Home Lock. Point of Interest flies perfectly circular orbits about a point in space, keeping the camera honed at the center the entire time.

There are a few new advancements with the Phantom 4 Pro V2 and we will highlight these throughout this post. I’ll be doing some overseas travel later this year, and I know I’ll kick myself if I don’t have a drone to explore a little and view my location from overhead. Thanks to the compactness of the Phantom drones, including one in my check-in luggage would be quite feasible. I know in my home town in Orlando I wouldn’t be able to fly a drone over the top of people on the beach, but in Sydney, the laws seem to be a bit more vague at the time of writing. Whilst no-fly zones are tightly regulated, I found that in Australia at least, areas for recreational drone flying were rather vague, with the laws constantly changing.

So yes, the dji drones can use its optical sensors to avoid crashing into things when you’re piloting. But it can also use them to automatically do your bidding in the air. Yep, it’s not cheap, but DJI has made one of the smartest drones available with the Phantom 4.

The aircraft will choose the best flight path to return home and senses as far as 300m to avoid obstacles more effectively. If the control signal is lost, the phantom 4 Pro will retrace its original path to regain its connection after 1-minute. When it reconnects, it will return to home following a straight route.

You can do all of those things with the Phantom 3 models, but new for the Phantom 4 is ActiveTrack, which uses the OSS to follow a subject. You just draw a box on screen around what you want to track, tap the Go button that appears and the drone starts following, keeping the camera centered on whoever or whatever you selected. FIRMWARE UPGRADE1.During upgrading, if the level of flight battery or controller battery drops below 50%, will the upgrading process fail? Always use a battery with more than 50% power when upgrading. 11.Does the Phantom 4 Pro + remote controller support Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity? 9.Is the remote controller’s screen display’s brightness adjusted automatically or manually?

There are two Draw modes that can be used in different scenarios. The Phantom 4 Pro is an excellent quadcopter for professional site surveying, 3D imaging of terrain and photogrammetry of structures. As for commercial use, the quality of the still image isn’t quite there yet in my opinion. The inclusion of RAW format for a sensor of this size and quality doesn’t appear to mean much with the Phantom 4.

In Tripod Mode, the maximum flight speed is limited to 5.6 miles per hour and the braking distance is reduced to 6.6 feet. Responsiveness to stick movements is also reduced for smoother more controlled movements. Free – The aircraft only moves along the route when instructed. In this mode, the camera can face in any direction during a flight.

(In P mode the drone is limited to 15 degrees of forward or lateral bank.) Physics takes over from there. In moments, you can have the dji fly flying past you at speeds up to 45 mph. Although Sport mode is a ton of fun, it’s a necessary feature, as well. The Phantom 4 RTK is a light-weight quadcopter with detachable propellers.

There was no problem generating the whole spectrum of outputs from any of the three point clouds. The accuracy and quality depended on the source data, meaning we got the highest-resolution orthophotos from the flight performed 40m above ground. No surprise there but the point of our test was to see how accurate and of what quality the results would be at different heights. How high one decides to fly should always depend on the specific needs of one’s project, expected accuracy and required level of details. When used on the DJI Phantom 4 the Survey3 camera captures photos using its default interval timer. Since the lens field of view in the Survey3W model matches that of the original Phantom camera, planning your survey overlap is super easy.

They prevent overcharging and excessive draining, both of which damage lesser batteries. They even slowly discharge power during storage to keep the battery healthy. DJI Go shows how much power is in reserve and warns if reserve power is in danger of falling too low to get back home. The P4P can go back to the precise spot where it had been shooting after returning to base for a fresh battery. And it records its route as it flies, so that if Return to Home is activated, it retraces that safe route back to base. Professional installation by DroneNerds DJI-certified technicians is recommended.
