The shaving unit is identical to the one found on top of the Braun Series 7 (Model 790cc-4). Simply press the button in with your thumb while sliding upwards and the trimmer will spring right up. Even things like button placement and charging port are almost the same. Oh, and they feel near identical in the hand too.
In some models of the Series 3, you’ll find that there is no movement in the shaving heads. Otherwise, they don’t stay in contact with the skin as well as other models. The shaving elements move independently from the one next to it. In some models, the head can also be locked into position for precision cuts.
This may vary according to your beard growth and environmental temperature. To this end, I would recommend avoiding any Series 5 models that do not come with a cleaning station. The whole cleaning process appears to be designed to steer you towards using the cleaning station. Braun’s cleaning stations work the best out of all the major brands and the Series 7 did not disappoint. The alcohol based cleaning detergent thoroughly removed all traces of hair clippings and even lubricated the blades.
The beard trimmer works fine as long as you don’t try to go too fast. I get breakouts and skin irritation from manual razors, and this one is marketed to have skin sensitive technology and can be used wet or dry. Other Braun shaver series comes with a cleaning and charging station which this series 5 does not, although that may come soon. Cleaning is a feature of this shaver that should stand out, hence why Braun calls it EasyClean . I still remove the blades to make sure it’s cleaned very well. This model has a fixed shaving head which is not as flexible while shaving as the higher-priced flexible head models.
The Braun 5190cc is the updated model of the Braun 5090cc that comes with an automatic cleaning and charging station. The cleaning station cleans, dries, lubricates, and charges the shaver automatically that you have to do manually with the solo models. The shaver is 100% waterproof that is also allowed to clean the device manually if you have lack of cleaning cartridge.
If you don’t want to take the time to clean then manually charge the shaver, pick one that has a station included. It does not give as close a shave as a manual razor blade. This shaver is for those who shave best when the skin is dry. The solo models of the older Series 5 are also easy to clean. To clean the shaver head, just put it under the tab and start the power. You can remove the foil cassette to clean the inner blades. You can also use the provided cleaning brush with the older Series 5 shavers to clean instantly after dry shaves.
It is recommended that you clean your Series 5 shaver after each and every use. In an effort to help those of you with poor shaving technique, the shaving heads have a certain amount of give.
