I considered underplaying the importance of case material when it comes to a brand known for its iconic silhouettes but I quickly decided I was being ridiculous. The conversation of what makes any Casio feel truly great on the wrist cannot ignore something as integral to that experience as the case material. And acting like the memorable aesthetics of the models we’ve come to adore over the past 40 years or so aren’t radically transformed by the material in which they’re brought to life is just as foolhardy an endeavor. Therefore, if you find yourself trying to decide between a “classic” resin-cased “Casioak” GA-2100 and its recently birthed metal counterpart, the GM-2100, read on.
As a seasoned G-Shock user who has worn them in the harshest environments on the Earth, I genuinely appreciate what Casio achieved back in 1983 when the first model rolled off the production line. The creation baby g shock of the G allowed me to wear a watch where other models would have curled up and surrendered. They remain a source of wonder to me, and I will always have an insatiable appetite to collect them.
The tang buckle is about as cheap as they come. The strap was what I expected in this price range. Casio marketed the GA-2100 series as a slim and tough watch.
I’m not so sure I’d use that term (although itseems like low-hanging fruit to do so). I think this is just something very different that remains comfortably familiar. Comparing my resin GA-2100 side-by-side with the GM-2100 is an odd experience. One looks rugged and approachable; the other looks futuristic and strangely elegant. The GM-2100, therefore, leaps out at me as the perfect watch for a seasoned Casio collector looking for a model in the same canon that can be worn easily in more formal situations.
So, it can take on all of the outdoor activities I have planned for the summer . The double LED with high luminance brightly illuminates the dial and LCD to ensure readability in the dark. The module was slimmed by miniaturizing the componentry and employing optimized, high-density mounting for the circuit board structure. Combined with the Carbon Core Guard structure, these efforts made for an astonishingly smaller, slimmer case. Colorways-wise, when launched, Casio offered the G-SHOCK GA A , the GA A1 (the “stealth” version with black with gray hands and black indices) and the GA2100 4A .
But with this said, no one buys the Casioak as a tool. It protects the module by enclosing it in a carbon case. All three of the original GA-2100 versions have a negative liquid crystal screen with light colored letters. The other two are black , blending in well with the rest of the watch face.
If you press the upper-right and lower-left buttons at the same time, the hands will move out of the way of the LCD temporarily. But yes, I agree that there are better options if nighttime visibility and LCD functions are a priority. Unfortunately, most of the affordable analog G-Shock watches do not have the seconds hand, but the more expensive ones do. The GA-2100SU-1A with camo bezel and the green and black GA-2110SU-3A are new releases in the U.S. and are available at several retailers. Also new, but not released in the U.S., is the yellow and black GA-2110SU-9A that was released in Japan, Asia, Europe, and Australia. We wouldn’t be surprised to see more GA-2100 models released in 2020.
This article clearly lacks research as well as sweeping statements That are not based on any facts . The 2100 g shock is a G shock ,it is shock resistant ,200 meters water resistant and the inner casing is protected and cushioned by many different components.Open up the watch. And do a real review g shock protection before you smear the brand and make false accusations. If you are not familiar with the CasiOak series pause and look it up now as before we examine the technical details, we must address the elephant in the room. The new Casio bears more than a passing resemblance to an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak.
The 45mm GA A1ER “Stealth” model has been designed to present a full blackout dial picture and the slightly smaller 43mm GMA-S2100-1AER which is also predominantly black but with polished rose gold indices and hands. Light, comfortable, very high eye appeal for the money, main hands surprisingly readable, other features not so much and I like how it doesn’t scream G Shock in design, size and case wording. Those with narrower wrists don’t even think about the watch not fitting properly or seeming overly wide, which is a common issue with bigger G-Shock watches. Even though the display is bigger than the DW-5600, it wears similarly. It’s really an analog-digital version of the earlier DW-5600 with a few more functions.
The light is positioned near the tiny digital screen. Dubbed the ‘Casioak’ due to its octagonal similarities to a Royal Oak, it looks like something Batman would have on his wrist. And he wouldn’t be worried about damaging it while fighting crime, as it’s as rugged as any Casio G-Shock in their stable. Rich blacks, lots of dial detail and an ana-digi display make this a joy to look at. But this joy is only achievable in lower light situations to those who have a good level of eyesight, or possibly their own set of night vision goggles like the Dark Knight himself.
It seems to function a great deal better with other GA models. The day subdial of the GA A1 is likewise extremely tiny and almost undetectable due to its black or dark grey hues. There’s little question that the GA-2100’s resemblance has drawn a great deal of attention worldwide, giving it more exposure than other versions. While it has a noticeable bezel, it is thinner and less intrusive than those seen on previous G-Shock models. The watch now has a more conservative appearance, but the case and strap maintain distinctive G-Shock features. The GA-2100’s dial has a polished design that isn’t too crowded and is both modern and timeless.
