The result of this was that there were several occasions when we were unable to use the vacuum. While it scored well in our larger debris pick-up tests, it scored poorly in our finer debris pick-up tests. The Dyson 360 Heurist aims to resolve these problems with a high-performing vacuum that claims to have 20% more suction than its predecessors.
Alerts when the bag needs a change and integration with Alexa and Google Assistant are a sweetener to an already excellent robot vacuum. Look no further than this model if you want a robot vacuum that’s great for collecting pet hair and other dust and debris. The Roomba S9+ is self-emptying and deposits the debris from each clean into the 14.9oz / 440ml replaceable dust bag in the charging and emptying station – meaning you won’t have to empty the robot vacuum regularly. Instead, you’ll get an alert on the app when it needs replacing, and the vacuum offers integration with Alexa and Google Assistant.
The cleaning performance for theDyson V7was actually better than the V8 on carpet. On hardwoods, the Dyson V7 captured 89% of debris tested and on both low and high carpet, it captured 100% of the debris tested (1-2% more than the V8). TheRoomba 690is an excellent option for budget consumers who are looking for an excellent value.

Some, like Toyota’s work with TRI, are thoughtful and deliberate, while others, like Samsung’s robotics efforts, appear to be more for show. For Dyson’s part, it says it has been refitting an aircraft hangar at Hullavington Airfield, a former RAF station in Chippenham, Wiltshire, in England that the company purchased back in 2016. But there are changes from previous models, the most obvious of which is the shape of the robot vacuum itself, which seems wider and shorter. It also has one flat side, so it has more in common with theNeato Botvac than previous Dyson vacs – superficially, at least. To block its path you will have to shut doors or put up barricades.
If there is a small obstacle in the path, such as a sock, the wheels will go over it with relative ease. The Roomba 980 uses the iHome mobile app on any Android or iOS device. The app is a free download and is not essential for using the vacuum; however, it is a lot easier. Once downloaded you just need to sync your robot to the network and then your network to the app. The 980 also uses two side brushes that rotate to push dirt and debris to the center of the cleaning path.
If you were to turn on the Eye in the middle of an empty room, you’d see it move one robot-width every time it turned, spiraling outwards until it hit the edges of the room. Dyson’s first robot vacuum does a great job picking up dirt—but has trouble reaching it. The “360” part suggests that the robot will follow in the 360 Eye’s rolling brush-steps by carrying a 360-degree dyson robot vacuum vision system. Wirecutter, The New York Times’s sister publication that tests products, recommends stick vacuums from Black & Decker and Tineco that cost $150 to $400. Today, the company revealed it’s developing robots for the home that do more than just clean floors. Even with the camera based navigation, this robot will have issues cleaning glossy or black furniture.
Solving those and other problems could create new markets for the company. However, unlike the basic mapping of the 360 Eye, the Heurist really ups the game with personalized zones and room settings. If, like me, you have got side units and appliances that you do want the gap underneath cleaning then the Dyson isn’t for you. You do end up sacrificing large parts of your flooring as no-go zones due to its taller stature. However, if you have furniture with small gaps underneath them the Heurist obviously won’t be able to limbo its way in there. In my house, we have a big side cabinet that our Roborock machines have no issues navigating under but the Dyson doesn’t come close to getting involved.
Fancy tech doesn’t drain the battery life either, with up to 60 minutes – which should be plenty, even if the laser has you meticulously cleaning every nook and cranny. For a full-size upright vacuum, they also have theDyson Animal 2. This offers a larger dust bin capacity, more accessories, and stronger suction, but it’s a far cry from being like a robot vacuum. Dyson added that the team soon realized that vision sensors geared to measure a room, to triangulate location were the way forward.
