There are three key disadvantages of your typical robot vacuum cleaner. The first is that, obviously, it can’t tackle stairs and, similarly, can often have trouble dealing with certain raised floors and furniture. The best robot vacuum for deep cleaning is Dyson’s 360 Heurist (£899). It’s a big improvement on the original Dyson robo vac with increased suction power, the ability to see in the dark and it’s a great performer, especially on carpets that need a deep clean.
More advanced Wi-Fi equipped robot vacuums tend to only require Wi-Fi for certain features linked to a companion app on your phone. These include scheduling via your phone and the vacuum letting you know it has become stuck. While the battery life and suction has improved greatly, this is not a fast cleaner, and if you have a large, cluttered house it will almost certainly need a halfway recharge before completing the job.

The 360 Eye will also pick up these items; however, it’s collection bin sensor is very sensitive. One long piece of straw can trigger the sensor into thinking the bin is full. It takes 30 images per second to get the current layout of the space and then creates a panoramic view to follow. It will figure out a few stationary points, such as a chair or table, and then use those points to triangulate its position.
The new vehicle appears to share the Heurist’s 360-degree camera with an LED lighting ring, which helps it to vacuum in the dark. Other features include a Hyperdymium brushless motor, which is supposed to be more reliable and quieter than a bissell crosswave cordless brushed motor. Lastly, the Dyson’s suction was not as strong as my extremely powerful Miele bagged vacuum.
