I tried to test it in a variety of scenarios so I can get a better understanding of its pros and cons and when this shaver would be a suitable option. For this review, I’ve been using the Braun Series s exclusively for almost two weeks. The battery indicator is very basic, with only 3 levels, Philips Norelco Shaver each one representing a third of the battery capacity. Charging the 5018s from 0 to 100% takes around one hour. The charger (type 492-XXXX) has a USA plug and will work anywhere in the world (100–240v). Nevertheless, the battery life has been solid during my tests with the Series s.

This is best used when movement would make shaving tricky, like just above your upper lip. Unlike all the other electric shaving brands, Braun’s cleaning cartridges are alcohol based. Oddly enough, the cleaning station looks near identical to that found in the box of Braun’s top end shaver, the Series 9. It’s definitely one of the better looking cleaning docks on the market. As you can see in the image above, it is pretty straightforward to engage the pop-up precision trimmer. You need to push the button at the back and slide the precision trimmer.
It is very easy to clean and can be washed with warm water without removing the blades while shaving with it, but after using it, it still requires cleaning properly. I still remove the blades to make sure it’s cleaned very well. This model has a fixed shaving head which is not as flexible while shaving as the higher-priced flexible head models. Buyers are looking at paying more for shavers with a flexible head compared to this model. Very good ergonomics and the slimline design with hand grips does make the series 5 very comfortable to use. The most fragile part of this shaver and all other electric shavers seems to be the head section with the cutters otherwise the whole unit feels solid.
If you are a daily shaver or love Braun’s other models then you will feel right at home with this shaver. When the shaver is getting close to running flat, the last red bar will blink at you, trying to get your Remington Shaver attention to place the shaver on charge. The charger can work on any voltage from 100V to 240V. From America to Australia and everywhere in between; you will be able to charge your shaver when the battery dies.
