Weber Q 1200 Review Tested by GearLab

For instance, you could load it in the back of a pickup truck to take to a football tailgate and help out by grilling burgers, hot dogs, sausage, and bratwurst for you and a few friends. So, once again – if more portability and a lighter weight are top considerations for you, then the Q1200 would be the way to go. However, if you don’t mind the extra bulk and weight of a larger grill, then the Q2200 could be a viable option. It’s a great mid-range grill that’s great for home use but compact enough to take out about in certain circumstances.

These two grills come with a stationary stand that the grill unit bolts onto. Size-wise and feature-wise, the portable bbq1400 is identical to the Weber Q1000, and the Q2400 is the same size as the Q2000. The major exceptions are that neither model has a button to light it since they do not use gas fuel. When you click on links to buy products we may earn money to support our work.

He packed up the grill in the bed of his truck, and while he was surprised at its weight—which is more than 40 pounds—he really liked that it felt sturdy and durable. Using the grill, he was able to cook easily for himself and four coworkers, and they all agreed that the burgers and hot dogs came out great. Like a kid on Christmas, I couldn’t help but try out the Weber Q 2200 the day I got it. I had leftover ground beef in the fridge, so I decided to grill up a burger for dinner.

Not changed is the 189 square inches of cooking space offered, push button ignition, infinite control burner value, cast aluminum lid and body and a glass-reinforced nylon body. The 1200 is our favorite portable grill for efficient meals. An easy-to-read, integrated thermometer helps you accurately track temperature, and fold-out side tables offer plenty of space for your BBQ tools. While its weight and lack of latching lid make it less than ideal for carrying into remote picnic sites, the Weber Q 1200 is the ideal companion for road tripping and car-camping.

They both accept both the 14.1oz and 16.4oz disposable propane bottles. This is far more cost-effective and won’t leave you running out of propane halfway through cooking a meal. Ideal for cooking hotdogs, hamburgers, chicken, steaks, and veggies.

Though it’s available with the same Titianium colored lid that all other gas models have, it is also available in several other colors as well. Red, blue, orange, and green colored lids are all unique to the Q1200, but it also has a black model, similar to the electric versions. Despite a few hot spots here and there, the only exception to the even heat distribution of this grill weber charcoal grill are the farthest edges of the grill surface. The only annoyance in the wind is the disposable aluminum drip tray liner, which is designed to save you from having to clean what can notoriously be the nastiest part of a grill. Without some significant weight added — like a rock — you can expect that this drip pan will pick up and fly away with the first significant gust of wind.

The LP model comes with an adaptor hose to connect to a 20lb propane tank. The natural gas model includes a hose and fittings to connect to a barbecue service line, should you have one. The smallest of the Weber Q models, these grills are hard to beat when combining quality with portability. Perfect for small families wanting to barbecue at the beach or the park. Fantastic for tailgating or to use on your next camping trip. As with all the Q’s, they are easy to clean with their smooth lines and removable drip pan.

Although it tops our list of portable grills, the 31-pound, 3.2 cubic-foot frame of the Q 1200 is best suited to your tailgate, apartment patio, or as part of your RV setup. Like any gas grill, the Weber Q 2200 needs to be cleaned after each use, but it’s incredibly easy to do. Once the grill cooled down a bit after cooking, I used my wire brush to clean food and grease off the grates. Everything came off the porcelain-enameled cast iron easily, especially because the grates were still a bit warm. An improved porcelain enamel finish extends the life of the 189-square-inch cast iron grate for long-term use.
