Weber Q 1200 Review Tested by GearLab

Today I want to compare all the models you can choose from in the portable bbq Series. Weber Q grills are some of my favorite portable grills, but there are quite a few differences between them. We believe in offering the very best value, quality, and selection.

The Q 3200 also comes with a stand for the grill, making it the only freestanding Weber Q model. This model also has a Grill Out handle light, which illuminates your grill for nighttime cooking. This grill is the only Weber Q that can be bought as a natural gas grill model instead of a propane gas grill only. All portable grills, in our experience, struggle to control their internal temperature.

Not surprisingly, this grill doesn’t offer the control of full-size grills. This is not to say that it cannot be controlled, but that it will likely take a bit of a learning curve until you figure out how to do so. But even understanding the reasons behind the weight does not benefit this grill’s portability. Again, considering this grill against all other tabletop models in this review, the Q 1200 “packs down” to a less-than-reasonable 3.2 cubic-feet.

By sacrificing the extra cooking space, you gain a lighter grill that’s more suited to travel – and still offers great performance. Yes that’s right Weber briefly made a charcoal version of the weber charcoal grill. The configuration and price of the grill proved to not be very appealing to the customers. The Char Q was built on the 200 frame so it was a large portable charcoal grill and with the price of $150 it proved to be something not worth it for consumers. The Char Q was released in 2008 and Weber ended production in 2011. Beyond size, the rest of the features remain the same as found in the Q1000 series. The Q2200 offers a built-in thermometer in the hood and electronic ignition.
