When it launched way back in 2015 the Roomba 980 (£849) was iRobot’s top-of-the-range Wi-Fi connected design, and while it now somewhat eclipsed by the i7+, it has more enough cleaning smarts to deserve a place on this list. Thankfully the S6 MaxV is quick and relatively quiet, although you’ll dyson robot vacuum not want to chat while it’s in the same room. Other innovations include Dyson’s flagship cyclonic suction technology, powered by the same motor that’s found in Dyson’s handheld vacuums. The No Brush Bar option turns off the spinning bar, which is good for more delicate hard floors and for deep-pile carpets. Finally, there’s a No Climb option, which prevents the robot from trying to lift up over obstacles, such as furniture that has support bars.

The Micro is as compact as Dyson gets but its diminutive size is deceptive as it gets the job done over the course of its 20-minute battery life. The 0.2-litre capacity isn’t all that sizeable but should carry you through in smaller living spaces or if used for single-room irobot vacuum cleaner cleaning. At this price, there’s very little to complain about with the X8 Hybrid. Everything is easy breezy with this device, you simply let it go. But, when you do need to add an attachment or customise the vacuum’s functions at all, that’s super simple to do as well.

The 360 Eye has one full-length bar that combines nylon bristles with carbon fiber brushes for cleaning on all floor types. The bar replaces the need for side brushes as it is the entire width of the machine. As it cleans, it will update where it has been, what areas still need shark cordless to be cleaned and how far along the grid it is. Moving furniture doesn’t matter, as the map is constantly being updated on every cleaning cycle. Even if you relocated the vacuum and charging station prior to the next cleaning cycle, there wouldn’t be many issues in navigation.

Plus its sensor system worked effectively, meaning that even when it bumped into furniture, it was able to navigate away without assistance. Once I learned how to do everything in the app, I still had trouble getting most things going. A few too many steps involved, unless you just want to start cleaning.

At least until they sprout legs and can deal with awkward cables, rugs and the like, but – when that comes – we’re likely all doomed anyway. While stairs remain their nemesis, most robot vacuums do use their camera smarts to detect a ton of hazards so you’ll likely be surprised by how much they don’t crash into things, come your first use. Robot vacuum cleaners have joined dishwashers, washing machines and tumble dryers, i.e. the veterans of the cleaning world, in automating pesky chores and minimising hassle.
